Welcome to white dove nursery

CURRICULUM

We follow the Early years Foundation Stage Curriculum in which seven areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting your child make sure the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs.

Children in the EYFS learn by playing & exploring, being active and through creative & critical thinking which all takes place both indoors and outside.  The EYFS Framework underpins everything we do and is firmly embedded throughout our practice each day.

Teaching is often done through play, where the child learns about subjects and people through games. We work with the children and the parents to ensure every child achieves their full potential.

We provide children with a wide range of activities including creative and messy play to encourage development in an enjoyable and stimulating way. The child has access to high quality, safe equipment, and an extensive range of resources according to age and ability.

LEARNING JOURNEYS

Upon joining our nursery, your child will be issued with a Learning Journey. Over time, this will build up a picture of your child’s journey through the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.

Your child’s key person will add assessment documents to the Learning Journey which provide a record of your child’s learning and development during the time with us.

Briefly you will see your child’s stage of development and the activities they will be involved in next at the nursery. The Learning Journey will include direct observations, artwork, photographs, and home observations, which are used to provide your child’s key person with the relevant information required to impact your child’s learning and development. All this information is used to ensure we plan activities to fully engage your child, based on their current interests.

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE

We enable children to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

Children’s physical development, enthusiasm and energy for movement is promoted through helping them to use their bodies effectively, by encouraging spatial awareness, balance, control, and coordination, and developing motor and manipulative skills.

They must develop their gross and fine motor skills, physical control, mobility, and an awareness of space, using large and small equipment, across all Areas of Learning, indoors and outdoors. Children are encouraged to enjoy physical activity.

PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

We help children to develop a positive sense of themselves and confidence in their own abilities; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to build social skills and manage their feelings; and to understand appropriate behavior. They are encouraged to develop their self-esteem, their personal beliefs, and moral values.

LITERACY

We help children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. They access a wide range of reading materials like books, poems, and other items to spark interest.

MATHEMATICS

We provide children with opportunities to develop their skills in counting; understanding and using numbers; doing simple calculations; and describing shapes and measures. During the Foundation Phase, children develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of mathematics through oral, practical and play activities.

They enjoy using and applying mathematics in practical tasks, in real-life problems, and within mathematics itself. They use a variety of ICT resources as tools for exploring number, for obtaining real-life data and for presenting their findings.

Understanding of the world

UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD

Children will experience the familiar world through enquiry, investigating the indoor and outdoor environment in a safe and systematic way. They will be given experiences to help them to increase their curiosity about the world around them and help them to begin to understand past events, people, and places, living things, and the work people do.

Using all their senses, they will be encouraged to enjoy learning by exploration, enquiry, experimentation, asking questions and trying to find answers., maps, Children will  be guided to make sense of their physical world through opportunities to observe and explore places, people, technology, and environment.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN

Children will continually develop their imagination and creativity across the curriculum. Their natural curiosity and disposition to learn will be stimulated by everyday sensory experiences, both indoors and outdoors. Children will engage in creative, imaginative, and expressive activities in art, craft, design, music, dance and movement. Children will explore a wide range of stimuli, develop their ability to communicate and express their creative ideas, and reflect on their work.
